Totem Poles

The Covid Project that led to my ‘Big Ceramics’ journey.

These totem poles stand on either side of the entrance of the RedAlkemi office building, which was built in 2019 within the Aura premises. These poles are a tribute to the company that the founders started and worked in since 1986.

The totem poles stand for the spirit with which the founders worked, as equal partners, to build the vision for what they wanted the company to stand for. “Red” symbolizes the passion with which the team worked, and “Alkemi” for their love for the process of creation and transformation.

Each pole has 18 pieces of ceramics slipped onto a PVC pipe, which was earlier cemented securely into the ground. We had also previously slit the pipe down the length so that we had some play to squeeze it and fit on some of the tighter pieces. The top of the pole has a low power light, so from afar they look like two giant candles when lit up.

The glazes used on the pieces are the RedAlkemi brand colors of red, black and white. The third photo is a close up of the red and black sphere, which has symbols of alchemy painted on them, depicting what RedAlkemi stands for.
